The **Notes** column in the Gradebook allows instructors to track extra information, such as student details or general notes. This column is **not visible to students**.

> ℹ️ 
> ℹ️ - Instructors can only show and hide the Notes column.
> ℹ️ - The Notes column is included in the gradebook export CSV file, and you can add notes via CSV import.

1. **Open the Gradebook**

- In Course Navigation, click the **Grades** link.

2. **Show the Notes Column**

- Click the **Settings** icon **[1]**.
- Go to the **View Options** tab **[2]**, check the **Notes** box **[3]**, and click **Apply Settings** **[4]**.

3. **Add a Note.**

- Click the note field for the appropriate student **[1]**.
- Enter your note (up to **255 characters**) in the text field **[2]**.
- Click **Save** **[3]**.

> ℹ️ **Note: **<span style="color: #0747a6">To sort the Notes column, press the "s" key on your keyboard.</span>

4. **View and Edit Notes**

- Resize the column or click the note field again to see the full comment.

> ℹ️ **Note**: <span style="color: #0747a6">When you navigate away from the Gradebook, any changes to the size of the columns will be lost.</span>

5. **Hide the Notes Column**

- Click the **Settings** icon **[1]**.
- In **View Options** **[2]**, uncheck the **Notes** box **[3]**, then click **Apply Settings** **[4]**.

> ℹ️ **Note:** Hiding the column does **not** delete existing notes.
