If you accidentally publish a quiz that needs correction, you can use **Quiz Regrade** to edit existing questions and have Canvas recalculate student grades.

Quiz regrade only works for specific question types and applies only to students who have already taken the quiz. It supports Multiple Choice, True/False, and Multiple Answers question types.

Adding or removing a question or changing a question’s point value will not trigger quiz regrade. In these cases, you should [moderate the quiz](https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/Once-I-publish-a-quiz-how-do-I-use-the-Moderate-Quiz-page/ta-p/761) and allow affected students to retake it. Quiz regrade also does not apply to questions [linked ](https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/How-do-I-create-a-quiz-with-a-question-group-linked-to-a/ta-p/1033)to a question bank, since those questions may appear in multiple quizzes. Additionally, adding or deleting answers from a question with submissions disables the option to regrade that question.

Once the regrade process is complete, Canvas will send you an email notification.

### Regrading Options

When you change the correct answer in a quiz question, Canvas provides up to four regrade options, depending on the question type:

1. **Award points for both corrected and previously correct answers** – Use this if multiple answers could be considered correct. This option is not available for Multiple Answer questions.

> ℹ️ **Notes:** If a question is regraded multiple times, the *Award points for both corrected and previously correct answers* option only applies to the most recent correction.

2. **Only award points for the corrected answer** – Use this option when an incorrect answer was originally marked as correct. It allows you to update the question and award credit only to students who selected the answer that should have been correct.

3. **Give everyone full credit for this question** – Use this option when a question is unclear or invalid. It awards full credit to all students regardless of their selected answer.

4. **Update question without regrading** – Use this to improve a question for future quizzes without affecting existing student grades.
